Hi folks:
I am starting to assemble a rod. The reel seat UL-3 is in a number of pieces. The top hood appears to press fit the spacer quite well. Does it need to be empoxied to the spacer? In the past I have not mounted the butt cap unitl last. Is this the best way to assemble the reel seat? The handle has been reamed to fit the blank. I will be applying the epoxy to the blank and sliding the handle down. Do I mount the reel seat to the blank before sliding on the handle? what happens to the excess rod bond? What is best to clean up rod bond? Thanks Chris Richer Iroquois ON Re: starting handle assembly

All pieces of the reel seat should be rod bonded. The rod blank in driven down to the end of the spacer or wood insert so that it is flush with the end of the insert. Next fill the extra space, if any, at the end and rod bond the cap on. Remember to turn the blank as you put it into postion. This helps to spread the bond evenly. Now paint some bond on the rod and slide down that grip. Have bond in the recessed area and on the hood of the seat. Turn grip while mounting. You may have to tape the cap after mounting to the seat and let it dry sitting upright to prevent the rod bond from pushing out the cap. Clean all excess with dentured alcohol especially around the thread area. Also remember to align the seat and mount your reel so everything lines up before it dries. You have plenty of time with rod bond to make sure every thing is good to go. Have fun Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
