I'm wondering if any of you know of a source where I can buy name brand fly reels at wholesale. Is this the sort of thing where I would need to go direct to the manufacturer or is there somewhere I can get fly reels through wholesale distributors. I'm looking for a reel I can use for demo/casting purposes at fly shows and I would also sell them to compliment my rods. The reels would have to be a name brand so that the customer will recognize the name. Thanks for any info!

Most of the name brand fly reels (Loop. Ross, Marryat, Abel, etc.) are fair trade priced. They aren't sold through distributors and in order to purchase them from a manufacturer you have to qualify as a dealer, not have any other dealer within a certain distance of you, and most likely buy in at an initial order of several thousand dollars. These are the policies that have made the fly fishing industry so strong and viable.
Best bet? Go buy a couple of Pfuegler Trion fly reels and put those on your rods. They look great and they work great. They may not carry the clout that some of the upper crust fellows recognize but the performance they offer is really outstanding. No one will be able to complain about their looks or performance. .............. Re: The Reel Question

Loop and the original Loop fly reel maker Danielsson Innovation "got divorced" some time ago and now Danielsson sells their superb reels at their web site without any distributors. It's pretty obvious that the prices got down nicely due to all this. Highly recommended reels!
