Hi Bill,
I would not use anything but clean water and maybe an old toothbrush to
clean the guide threads or butt wrap. I believe curtin chemicals could repel
the epoxy finnish.
There should be no reason to clean the guide wraps unless there was an
accident or something that caused them to get dirty in the first place.
( I had to learn the hard way to keep my hands off the threads once wrapped
on the rod ) ( oils from ones hands can cause repelling of the epoxy also )
I thought about trying to clean the wraps on a rod that was brought to me
and had been wraped maybe 15 yrs ago and never had the finnish put on.
The wraps were very dusty and after some thought, I decided to re-wrap
instead.

Hope this helps,

Raymond Adams

If a rod sits and gets dusty I use compressed air to clean it off regulated to 25psi.I have at times also used the canned air used to clean computers and key boards.I shy away from anything liquid thinking the thread will swell or trap in some solvent.
