I'm looking for an ultralight very fast action spinning rod blank that will throw about 1/32 - 5/16 oz. jig. Plan to use up to 6 lb. line. Length - 6-1/2 ft. Probably 2 pc. Want a fast tip to cast the small jigs and enough backbone to strike solidly and handle good sized trout.
Suggestions on the right blank. Thanks Re: Ultra light spinning rod

I fish ultralight exclusively and have built several rods using the St. Croix 5'9" SC V blank. I use a 1/32 beetlespin lure and 4-6 lb line. This blank is very sensitive and a real joy to use. I take a lot of kidding from my fishing partners because of the cost of the finsihed rod. I used Fuji guides and reel seat. I have also built several rods using St. Croix SC III blanks(one and two piece) but I think that the SC V is really hard to beat for ultralight fishing. Try one, I think you will like it. If the SC V performs even better than then the 5' 6" UL SC III it must make in to a great UL. I really enjoy my 2 pc. SC III and am now intrigued with your recommendation of the SC V. Stan Grace Helena, MT "Our best is none too good" Re: Ultra light spinning rod

I've been looking at and a bit intrigued by the Cabela's XML simply because they are high modulus but affordable. for longer blanks, I'm going with Dan Craft, but with shorter, the XML may be worth a try.
Another option is to take one of Dan Craft's FT series in 4 weight, crop the but, and you should have about a 6' 6" and VERY LIGHWEIGHT but still fast and powerful blank. I know the 3 weight FT is 6' 3" and weighs about .75 oz, and is a fast action UL. (Dropping the butt piece.) Hope this helps. Mo Re: Ultra light spinning rod

Two blanks to look at if you want more power in the butt than any UL blanks I've tried are the B65LXF and B70LXF Graphite USA blanks, they will make them two piece if you want and are spec'd just like you wanted. Others I can think of are some of lighter weight XF dropshot blanks if you can live with a single piece blank, something like the BAST762S All Star if you can find one. It's rated 2 to 10 lb line, 1/32 to 3/8 oz. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
