Hello folks! New member to the board - truly a great board! :D
I'd like to hear opinions concerning the REC RCTS (Spinning Rod Guide) tip tops to be used in fly rods. To me the idea of the double loop structure seems good. IMHO this blocks fly line from getting snagged into the small niche in the base on the loop of the RTTUL models.? Anyone ever noticed this happening in their front cast? Thanks in advance! I personally think the double wire loop looks cheap, just like the old "Foulproof" guides. In more than 30 years of fly fishing I have never had the fly line hand up in the tip top. Re: REC RCTS Tip Tops in Fly Rods

Thanks for the comments!
Perhaps the scale in which the line gets stuck at the tip top is so small that the whole thing is more or less insignificant. I have the RTTUL in one of my rods as well and have had no problems. I guess thicker clear intermediates are the ones that are potential troublemakers in this matter. Though I have had a similar problem with Y-shape chrome snakes which have a similar small V-shaped niche in their base. The line got clearly stuck after every backcast and did not shoot practically at all. It was very frustrating so I had to rebuild the rod. Ofcourse the problem is simple to solve by putting small drops of coat into these small V-shaped bases on Y-snakes as is the chase with the RTTUL tip tops as well. Yeah, I guess that the double ring Recoil tip tops and strippers do look a bit cheap but isn't it cool to be retro and ultra hitech at the same time. ;) Any observations about the performance of these tip tops? Hi Mikko
I just put a RTTUL on my Sig V and and a RCTS on my FT. The FT works fine with the spinning tip although I maybe should've gotten a bigger size of the bugger. The RTTUL works well too - mine doesn't have a tight V-shape and the bottom of that low profile V-shape is covered with some mass (that REC probably use to attach the NiTi wire to the aluminium tube) so the line doesn't snag there. I like the looks of the fly tip top more but. Greetings to Kotka! Cheers Re: REC RCTS Tip Tops in Fly Rods

Cheers for the greetings and info Sakke! :) Maybe folks at REC have noticed the minor V-shaped base in the RTTUL and updated the tip top since all of the tips that I've seen have no filling in them.
Into which models of the Dan Craft's blanks are the tip tops attached to? Would be interested in giving them a go if you happen to have them with you at the Ruha at some point. ;) Re: REC RCTS Tip Tops in Fly Rods

I've placed them on FT 9' #5 4-pc and Signature V 9' #5 3-pc
I really really like the Sig V as a fishing rod and the FT is a great casting practise rod but works in fishing too even close range when overlined. I'll take them with me if and when I should happen to come to Ruha. Cheers Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
