Sage / Dan Craft

Knowing very little about Fly Fishing, I need a little help. Friend of mine was casting a 4 pc, 6 wt Sage and fell in love with it(no idea what model) and would like to know of a similar blank line that is less pricey. I thought right away of a Dan Craft but do not know the characteristics and if they would be comparable in performance to a Sage.

Sorry I don't have more info

Mike

there are there are numerous tapers and flex characteristics among sage blanks and the same is true of dans lineup. i have several of his signature three and i built an FT for a friend. i love the casting characteristics of the sig III and my buddy loves the FT. somewhere in his lineup is a rod you would like and the same could be said about sage. dans blanks are a screeming deal though.

Sage makes many fine fly rods that vary in action from moderate to ultra fast. If you're new to fly casting something in the middle of the road such as a moderate-fast action blank might be best. Dan Craft also sells Private Label IM6 blanks that are very inexpensive and easy to cast. Nice brown finish too. The performance differences between top of the line and lesser brands has narrowed to the point where it wouldn't be noticed by a novice caster. When you've become a competent fly caster, go to a show and try all the rods that you can, and find out which are best for your style of casting. Then build one (or more) to suit you.

my 2 cents,

Tony

Andy Dear will be stocking CTS fly blanks soon and I don't know if you can do much better than that in terms of high-end performance...

Hi Mike,

Could you or your friend recall and describe the finnish of the Sage rod or even the action. If yes it could probably be identified. Their website is the best place to start the chase in that chase.

It's a blank comparable to a Sage 690XP that he is looking for
