Color Preserver Question

I am building my 2nd and 3rd rods. They are matching spin and cast rods on 6'-6" forecast blanks. I am using blue and silver Gudebrod HT Metallic for the eyes.

Question is do I need to use color preserver on HT metallic thread, or will it not fade when I apply the epoxy finish? I do not want the wraps to become transparent.

Fading probably isn't the right word there. No, you won't need CP on metallic threads. Color preserver doesn't prevent fading of any thread. It just protects some threads from darkening so much and also being able to see through them a bit. If threads aren't packed tightly the blank or guide feet will still be visible even with CP and the wrap can turn a bit blotchy, also.

When I am in doubt about a thread, I just make a quick test wrap on an old piece of broken rod and mix a tiny batch of flexcoat and daub a bit on it. No turning necessary....you will see right away if color preserver is going to be necessary.
