Underwraps

I'm wrapping a halibut rod on a solid glass blank. I'm going to spiral wrap it using the bumber guide system. How important is it to use an under wrap on a solid glass blank if the guides are prepped correctly.

Weight is no issue - well prepped the blank will be no issue - underwraps and trim bands set up well sure make a rod look nice. Take a look at Jesse Bukys' rods - all underwrapped - tape trim bands- black thread base - they look nice - not necessary but look good.

It won't buy you anything but an extra thread color. That's a heavy rod and it won't harm the performance, but it won't add anything other than a cosmetic touch either.

Thanks guys. I've wrapped several with underwraps but have a guy who isn't concerned with the asthetics of the wraps and didn't know if there was any added protection from the underwrap.
