Agate Stripping guides

I've wanted to add a little flare to my next rod and was thinking or using a stripping guide with an agate insert. Has anyone used these on a graphite rod or are they only used on bamboo? Does the cost drive most folks away? Are newer materials simply far superior? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Modern ceramics are harder and more durable, but if you like/want the look, do it. I've repaired several old rods having agate guides and most were still in good shape, the agate rings, I mean. Ralph

If at first you don't succeed, go fishing, then try, try again.

If you like it, go for it. Beauty is in the eyes of the builder; beholders have to wait their turn!! LOL

I'm about to start a 3 weight and am using one myself.A Snake brand select series. Before ordering it I did a little research and was told that agate is a 7 on the mohs scale/ that shock damage would be the main thing to watch out for and that Tom Morgan uses agateen on both his bamboo and graphite rods.
