I've wanted to add a little flare to my next rod and was thinking or using a stripping guide with an agate insert. Has anyone used these on a graphite rod or are they only used on bamboo? Does the cost drive most folks away? Are newer materials simply far superior? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Re: Agate Stripping guides

Modern ceramics are harder and more durable, but if you like/want the look, do it. I've repaired several old rods having agate guides and most were still in good shape, the agate rings, I mean. Ralph If at first you don't succeed, go fishing, then try, try again. Re: Agate Stripping guides

If you like it, go for it. Beauty is in the eyes of the builder; beholders have to wait their turn!! LOL Putter Williston, ND Re: Agate Stripping guides

I'm about to start a 3 weight and am using one myself.A Snake brand select series. Before ordering it I did a little research and was told that agate is a 7 on the mohs scale/ that shock damage would be the main thing to watch out for and that Tom Morgan uses agateen on both his bamboo and graphite rods.
