Disappearing colors

Last night I did a feather inlay using a Grays Peacock eye for the topmost feather. Underneath it were two regular peacock feathers (green metallic color), and two yellow parrot feathers for the background. I used Gudebrod 811 to lock the feathers down. When the material dried the color I was really looking for in the Grays Peacock, purple, went to a black color. What might I use to lock this feather down that won't ruin the color?
Thanks for any help, Bob Hughes Re: Disappearing colors

The Gudebrod product contains alcohol. That may be a problem, I can't really say. I'd try one of the water based CP's such as the U-40 Color Lock or the Flex Coat CP. I've not had any feather color problems with either.

This photo shows my problems with the same feather. I asked about it and was told on the board here that there's just no saving some feathers' colors. I tried many coats of CP, Krylon sprays, etc. I couldn't get it to stay as it was before the finish, either. Maybe some FC CP like Tom says; I used Gudebrod 811. Putter, looks as though you had the same results as I did. I know that Bob Meiser uses these feathers on occasion with good results, so there must be way. I'll try your suggestion Tom. I also have some Brilliance left over from Clements days. It may work too. I guess I'll have to sacrifice some of these rare feathers to find out.
Thanks for the help guys. Bob Hughes Re: Disappearing colors
