Just curious:
I found an Okuma Celilo spinning rod (butt section only), model CES-902ML (medium light, 9' spinning rod) on the riverbank. Probably discarded by the original owner when the upper blank tip section broke? Anyways, the butt section is in excellent shape and would be a nice add-on to my rod collection if I can get a replacement upper blank. Is it worth the effort to contact the manufacturer (Okuma) to get a replacement tip section (upper half of the blank). The rod itself retails for about 30 bucks if on sale? For instance, will I get lucky and have Okuma ship me a free replacement tip section + shipping charges? Or, am I just better off scavenging the butt section for spare parts? thanks Re: Discarded butt section--suggestions

The nature of Okuma and their offshore manufacturing and sales through US jobbers most likely precludes you being able to get a new tip for that rod. You might be able to somehow manage a complete rod, maybe, possibly, but I have no experience with how hard that might be.
As far as scavenging parts - I doubt most would be of the quality you'd want to use on any decent rod. The original owner probably did the wise thing by just cutting his losses. Only mistake he made was in not putting the remaining section in the appropriate recepticle for trash pick up. If you can see using the blank for repairs, etc., then maybe it's worth keeping. ...................... Re: Discarded butt section--suggestions

Worse comes to worse, can make some reamers, do test wraps, or use it to shape your grips.

I use stuff like that to do sample of decorative wraps or you could make key chains out of it by cutting it into sections and putting a sticker on it and a couple split rings. Re: Discarded butt section--suggestions

It would make an excellent extension for a toilet bowl plunger. If the new blank cost $30, and that's what you want - go buy it. It's going to end up costing $15 for shipping, if they were able to send it to you. Re: Discarded butt section--suggestions

If it's like a large Musky Rod or blue water rod. You can strip it down and decorateit up a bit, put a cane tip on it and use for a walking stick. That's what I've been doing. Bill in WV Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
