I am building a bamboo rod from a Thramer blank and the cane is a little dark. The I turned a handle out of some high grade cork and some green burl. It looks a little light in contrast to the dark cane. Does anyone know of a way to darken the cork? Re: Darkening cork?

A coat or two of Birchwood-Casey Tru oil will both darken it slightly and act as a seal. Four to five coats will give it a gloss finish and water will bead up and the handle will not be slippery when wet. Re: Darkening cork?

If the oil doesn't darken it enough to your liking, you can also use a standard wood stain before the oil finish. Sacrifice a spare ring or two to test it first to find the shade you are looking for. Re: Darkening cork?

squint?
;-) actually, i found varathane brand wood stains in small tester packets, about a quarter each in various colors at my local orchard supply hardware store. one packet could do 2-3 coats on a standard fly rod grip. eric fresno, ca.
