Rockport report

Hidy Fellers Ladies,

I'm tired, just drove in from Rockport. When we stopped at the Three Rivers rest stop at 12:15 PM, the temp showing on the Explorer dash was 99 degrees.

Fished yesterday from 6:15 to 11:30 AM and had three limits of the purtiest Trout I have seen in several years. There were two 18 inch caught early that went in the box and after that every fish was 19 inch or better. One 25 1/2 inch and four others 24 inches or better. Just a bunch a solid fat Trout. It went almost dead still about 10 and Hot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The kind of hot that when you cast sweat flys off of your elbows.

Time for a nap.
Gerald Mc

Gearld,
Give us some specifics. What rod, line wt. and lures were you using? Were you throwing live shrimp or plastic? Right now I am tying Gurglers in white and black for night fishing. The next fly will be the Afro-disiac in tan and brown for morning fishing. I did a feather inlay on a 7 wt. last night to take on my trip to RP next week, Wednesday and Thursday. That feather inlay looks easy but it took me almost an hour just to get the feather set right. I have it turning now and it looks fair for my first time. This is on a plum colored Allstar blank. I found a couple of old Holland spools of thread in my box. One is a lavender and the other is a varigated dark purple. I think it will look real purty on the plum blank.

Even though I'm living in FL. I had assumed he meant Rainbow or brown trout. Now I'm confused. Where's Three Rivers?

Phil,

Rockport is on the Texas Gulf Coast near Corpus Christi. The fish that iIspoke of are Spotted Weakfish or in Texas known better as Speckled Trout. Three Rivers is about one half way between San Antonio and Rockport.

Later,

Just got back from Port Mansfield. The bay fishing was somewhat slower than in past years, but off shore was great. Last Wed. we hooked up 13 King Mackrel and landed 9. Along with the Kings, we had a total of 17 Snapper and 2 shark.

Sat, we almost got blown off the water, but still managed to land 5 King. Rough day!

Regards......Doug@
