I haven't seen anything about this on the board before but maybe it's been discussed or maybe someone has some experience with it.

I'm building an Amtak Matrix 9' 8 weight 4 piece for bonefish, permit, steelhead, salmon, etc. I did a weave of a Permit, courtesy of Doc Ski, on the butt section and while I was packing threads, my packing tool slipped and put a little scratch in the finish. I didn't think too much about it, figured I would put some Rod Restorer on it later. The scratch was fairly close to the weave. I wrapped some wasking tape around the blank so I could trim the threads from the weave. When I removed the masking tape a pretty large piece of the green finish coat came off with it. I now have a section of blank that is gray, maybe 3/16" x 5/16". Has anyone had the happen before? It looks really crappy. I suppose the thing to do is take off the weave and re-do it so the weave covers this part of the blank.

That really hurts Gerry. I know how hard you have worked on the weave. Is it too fare away that you cant just add some bands or a little more wrapping on each end of the weave area? If you move the weave I hope you dont encounter more probs. Wish I could think of more to help you my friend.

Hey what about doing some marbling at the end s of your weave wrap. Contact Putter or Mike Barkley, I bet they could give you some great ideas and that would seal the opening while dressing it up. Just a thought.

The area is about 1/2" from the weave. I think it would look odd to add another 1/2" to either end unless I did something like alternating colors. I had not thought of marbeling but that might be the best idea of all, in fact I think I like it. I'll send a picture to Putter and see what he suggests.

If it is your rod, you could put a short weave with your monogram on it.

You may also want to try a small trim band, separate from the main wrap on each side of it, maybe in complimentary colors to the weave.

Why not put your trim bands on for the weave then wrap the buggered area with the appropriate color of green wide enough to cover , add more trim bands and use the area between the bands for your inscription or decal.

Thanks for all the great ideas. I think it will probably end up being marbled on either side of the weave. I thought about it a bit and figured out how to make it look decent.
