How many coats is too much?

I have coated my threads 3 times. But after looking at my many other factory rods I noticed that on my 30lb rods the flex coat is much thicker around the threads then the rod I just built. Will more coats give added strength to the guides or is it just for looks?

The epoxy does nothing for the strength, it only protects the threads. Your thread wrapping is what holds the guides onto the blank. If the threads or completed covered with what you have done so far, then I would say you have enough epoxy on. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
