When gluing together the rings for a foregrip with a recessed hood for the reel seat, is it better to glue the recessed ring to the rest of the rings, turn the grip as a whole and then glue it to the rod/reel seat just like you normally would or is it better to glue all rings but the recessed ring and glue the recessed ring to the reel seat hood first and then shape the recessed ring after the rest of the foregrip has been glued to the blank? I hope you can understand what I'm asking!!!!! Re: Gluing Cork Handles with Recessed Hoods for Reel Seats

Phil, I prefer to glue up the grips and seat all on the rod and turn when dry. I have never turned a hooded fore grip off of a rod. There are hooded fore grips where the hood is a seperate "screw" unit you could turn on a mandrel, but again I have never used these. I fabricate my own out of up-lock fly reel seats. I feel I get a better quality reel seat that way, with a wood insert. I am a big proponent of turning all my grips after they are glued onto the rod. I am able to get a better fit of each cork ring around the rod and around the concealed hoods. Bill Doherty Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
