I like to spiral wrap my casting rods. I will start with a size 12, then 10 in the double foot. I will finish the rod in single foots. I still prefer the Fuji alconite guides on my bass rods.

On spiral wrap using the bumper system I have found this to work well for bass/pike rods: DF12, DF8 (bumper guide), DF10, SF7, and then SF6's on out. Usually use braided line up to 40#. On heavier rods for up to 1.5 to 2oz lures I might stay with 7's instead of the 6's.
I consider the DF guides necessary only because that part of the rod normally gets the most abuse in the boat. SF would work just as well if not for the wear and tear. I just finished an 806 fly rod with all SF Alconite guides. Feels great but I will have to be a little more careful with that first guide. Re: what guides do you guys use on you bass rod blanks..

I use a BLNAG 12, BLAG 10, 2 BLAG 8, BLAG 6 to a 6 tip. Still have some Roberts wrapped rods that used a 12 BLVLG than single foot spinning guides instead of BLAG's that are going strong for over 20 years now. Re: what guides do you guys use on you bass rod blanks..
