tinting epoxy

I'm cutting cork rings to build a pair of fly seats with 1/8 in. thick rings, throughout. I remember something being mentioned about Testors paint or pigment (?), one or the other,as an additive to tint the epoxy so it will show an otherwise hard to see glueline. I'm pretty good with invisible (well almost) glue lines, the only way to tell is by the different cork grain. I want just as thin a glue line, but with a bit of color. Oh, I have Brown, green, & red burl/composite rings, some pretty good cork rings (from Custom Tackle Supply), and some of Andy Dear's light burl and I'm sliceing up some of all of it. I still have'nt a clue about the pattern or what color I want to tint the epoxy. Thanks, in advance. Ralph

Ralph, I've had good luck using Testors pigment. Haven't tried anything else so I can't say if anything works better.

Thanks, Mick. Good enough. Can you tell me a few details please, because, I'm the kind of guy who can foul up a steel ball bearing with a rubber hammer if I try to work without directions. Ralph

hahaha.. I know what you mean!

Let the paint settle, or if you are in a hurry, tie a few feet of cord around the neck and spin it around helicopter style for a bit. Pour off as much solvent as you can and use a scoop or stick or whatever you have to dig out some pigment. Add it to your epoxy and mix it in. Keep adding and mixing until you get the shade that you want. A little bit goes a long way.
