Can anybody recommend an easy butt wrap besides just wrapping thread in front of the handle? I just realized I am running out of time to finish my rod before I go on vacation. I would like something that easy and looks good. This will be my first attempt at something besides thread just wrapped in front of the handle.
Thanks, Doug Re: Recommend an easy butt wrap

About the easiest wrap to do is a chevron. I do all sorts of wraps and I still like the way a chevron wrap looks. Thomas F. Thornhill Re: Recommend an easy butt wrap

The best looking wrap I did was a chevron. It was also the fastest wrap I did. Very simple, no fuss, no stress.

Try a contrasting solid underwrap, to show against the blank, and then do a chevron on top. This is what I've done for a quick and easy yet showy butt wrap. Re: Recommend an easy butt wrap

Make a 7" underwrap, put marks 1" apart for length of underwrap, pulling 8 threads at once [2black,4gold,2black] from a thread box, cross on every other mark as you spiral up and down the blank, make a second spiral pass crossing on the marks you skipped the first time, make two more spiral passes in the open spaces. At this point you have gone up and back 4 times with the 8 band of threads. Take a single thread and go up and back 4 times in the open spaces and tie it off on both ends. I do hundreds of these butt wraps a year and once you get use to it you can do one in 10 minutes. You can see them on my web site but you will have to E Mail me for the address. I don't think a single diamond wrap is all that bad either. This is coming from someone who is doing thier first rod and constantly tearing off the wrap and practicing another.
[www.rodbuilding.org] The set up is similar to the chevron as far as marking goes. Do a center wrap that is the width you want, say 4 threads. this will create an "X" then wraps the sides of it with contrasting color. Once you get the center "X" set up I think it will intiuative what to do next. The best thing to do is get Tom Kirkman's book. He has great pics and expalnations on how to do this. I am surprised that nobody mentioned the "chinese finger puzzle like" "Butt Wrap" that is offered by many suppliers. Cut it to size, slide it into place, and secure for and aft with thread wraps.
Can't get much easier than that.......Looks are a different equation. Derek Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
