building my third rod....bass rod, St Croix 3C70MHF 7' , split handle, no foregrip....trimmed threads....spiral wrap.
anyway.....took me all that time to touch up the guides ( Alconite) with the dremmel, and wrap a 12....(2) 10's....an 8....and (3) 6's, with a basic wrap and a 7 turn trim wrap on each side.....(along with a lot of unraveling...lol ) I'm exhausted.......hope this get's a little faster......and I'm not finished.......sheeesh. It'll be worth the wait though.....now all I have to do is learn how to catch fish. Re: took me 6 + hours.....

It's all a learning curve, your finished product will become quicker & look better each time. One other thing, the more you learn , the more you find there is alot more to learn...... Dave von Doehren PRRODS......If man built it , man can fix it.and if man built it man can break it ! Re: took me 6 + hours.....

Not to mention, the better you get... the better you want to be next time, so you spend a little extra time measuring, packing, burnishing.. vicious circle!
Like the guys said though, the more comfortable you get and start developing your own methods for all the different little jobs, the faster you'll get. That's a sweet blank you used. You are really going to enjoy it once you get it on the water! Re: took me 6 + hours.....

Not to mention that as your skills improve you usually find yourself building more and more complicated rods ie, guide wraps, decorative butt wraps and handles with custom turned wood inserts etc, etc. All of this will take even more time to finish a rod. If speed is the main concern stay away from the deorative side of rod building. Just a thought.

"Learning how to catch a fish" ??????? This ain't about learning how to catch fish !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is BLOOD , SWEAT , & TEARS - - - Rod Building here !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ain't about catchin' fish !!!!!!!!!!!! (lol)
It gets faster with each rod.... Then you become "INSANE" and start doing things you would never have thought you would do - - - like MARBLEIZING - BUTT WRAPS - WEAVES !!!!!! It won't be long until your family and friends won't reconize you..... watch yourself... tread carefully !!!!! You have been warned. Tight lines & Smokin' drags ~ Art Re: took me 6 + hours.....
