Guide size spinning

I need some help on guide sizing for a 7 foot mod-fast action med power spinning rod. I'll use the concept guide system in the library and I'm not sure about the first guide from the reel. As a guide line I thought I read here that the first guide should be approximately half the diameter of the outside of the reel spool, is this correct?. Also what is the acceptable (range) distance from the first guide to the middle of the seat(stem of the reel). Thanks for your help as I want to get started and want to be sure I'm on the right track. Gary

Approximately half the spool diameter is right. As for spacing, anywhere in the region of 18 to 23 inches from the reel stem (or middle of reel seat) will be right in the ball park. From there you can fiddle and work out the best distance.

I have done several of those for Musky/Pike and start with a 25 usually about 21-23 inches. The 12 8 and #6 fly guides the rest of the way
I use all single foots
