Afcote 2nd coat

How dry does the first coat of Aftcote have to be before the 2nd coat can be applied? I have always let my first coat be completely dry to the touch before applying the 2nd coat, whether using Aftcote, U-40 or FlexCoat. I'm in a bit of a rush on a rod and am curious as to whether the 2nd coat can go on when the first one is still tacky or if that will that inhibit the finish setting up.
Thanks, Jeff Hunter Re: Afcote 2nd coat

I never let any finish get hard to the touch when applying more than one coat. Unless I plan to sand the first coat down. Re: Afcote 2nd coat

I've let rods sit for weeks between coats of Classic Coat and never noticed any difference after the last coat was applied even when the last coat was weeks after the previous coat. Re: Afcote 2nd coat

It is better to put a 2nd coat on while the 1st coat is still tacky. If you wait longer 48 hours you well have to scuff the first coat. It is like panting a car if you don't sand the paint the new paint wont adhere to the old paint

Generally speaking, I can re-coat when using Aftcote in 8-12 hours. With this slow curing finish I'd venture to 'guess' you would be ok waiting as much as 2-3 days for the second coat. As always, the sooner the better.
