You shouldn't get ANY line slap once you get past the first couple of guides. Re: Spin rod - fly vrs spin guides

Same as Mike B. with spinning rods for redfish/speckled trout. Pros - lighter weight, lower frame, shorter wrap, Cons - IMHO none. Re: Spin rod - fly vrs spin guides

Bill,
Tom Kirkman's notions regarding "concept" guide placement, in the library on this site, will give you some idea of how easy it is to use single foot fly guides on a spin rod and why. He uses a table-top means of locating the first low guide at the "pinch point," where reel axis intersects rod section. All small guides from there to tip top. I used to guestimate at 1/3 rod length figuring reels vary, but now use both methods, just to compare, and go with TK's in the end. I craft lots of spin rods from 5 footers to 14 footers for steelhead and salmon. All, save the recent shorites, sport a #20, 25 or 30 butt guide, then a 16 maybe a 12 and the rest are 8s or 7s, depending on the length and use. All rods, fly and spin have regular single foot for tip top, ala Canada. For what it is worth, since 80s, all my fly rods sport only single foot fuji's and no two foot traditional stripper guides, typically. The system works, so go for it, you will find it makes rod crafting way easier and fishing easier as well. Hive Re: Spin rod - fly vrs spin guides

Don't get me wrong guys. I always use single foot flys. I was just curious if any one had found any problems using them. Guess there is no reason to stop.
Thanks guys Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
