High Modulus Rod Blanks

I'm at a loss. I built a 3 wgt, 4 pc 9 ft. rod from a Hook and Hackle (www.hookhack.com) XT 51 blank (51 million modulus, lite weight, fast action) and loved it. I ordered a 6 wgt for a Montana trip and now find out that Hook and Hackle has discontinued the blanks due to poor delivery from the manufacturer (supposedly made in USA). They recommend St Croix SC IV and Loomis IMX as comparable, but at significantly higher prices.

Does anyone know if equivalent (different branded ?) XT51 blanks are available elsewhere ? I like the action and quality and would prefer to save the roughly $100 difference.

Thanks
Tony

The modulus is for the material used in the rod, hence, not all rods made from 51 million modulus graphite will feel or perform the same. In fact, they can feel like different animals entirely.

All is not lost, however. It you take the CCS measurements for your current rod, and then find another blank that is similar (The CCF [Common Cents Frequency]) will put you even closer to a blank that not only has the same action and power, but the same "feel."

Yes, I know how you can get BETTER blanks. Pick up a Dan Craft's rods. Hook and Hackle got a bunch of Dan's blanks and then could not get enough delivery so they discontinued it. (I'm almost sure of this.) I just go directly to get the superb blanks from Dan Craft directly. Try the FT and V series which I think are better than the 51 million modulus. (They are 57 and 60 million modulus respectively.)

Hope this helps.
Mo

Tony--try a Dan Craft Sig III...I have a sneaking suspicion it might be just what you're after! ;)

H & H sells a lot of Batson products, I thought the HX blanks were the old RX8 blanks. The numbers seem to match a lot better than Dan's Sig III. I imagine the RX8+ or RX7+ blanks may put you in the same ballpark, the Batson clan could help you there.

Thanks all for responses. Been gone a week, just got back. Tom: I can't find references to CCF analysis anywhere here on the forum (tried Directory, glossary, FAQ) .... is there a link I'm missing ?

Batson blanks for 6 wgt, 4 pc, 9 ft look to be $204 ... lot more than I wanted to pay. Mud Hole/Cascade blanks seem not available in this size. Rocky Mountain: I looked thru your site and don't see a Dan Craft blank in this size. Don't find blanks on the Dan Craft site, either. Still lost.

Thanks again for any help.

Tony
