Does anybody have a good suggestion about not leaving grip marks from a chuck when wrapping guides. To loose it spins, to tight and the chuck leaves impressions on the rear grip. There must be something on the market that can be inserted into the blank without hurting the rear grip Any suggestion would be helpful. Re: grip marks

Just insert a section of scrap rod blank into the blank butt and chuck onto that. It might help if you shim the scrap section with a bit of masking tape to provide a bit of cushion and less chance of it coming loose. A wood dowel would even suffice provide you use some tape to create a taper to match the rear of the blank.

I just use the blue masking tape. Wrap it around the cork a few times. Re: grip marks

I have used masking tape but it leaves glue marks on the rear grip.I have also inverted the first several turns then left the sticky side out . Seems to work a little better. I am working on a devise that works great on rods with a 1/2 ID but the smaller rods 3/8 to 1/4 can't make it small enough.
Thanks for the reply Dick Zrudsky Re: grip marks

I've got a bunch of different sized butt caps and stick the end of the rod in one and chuck it up and use a large rubber band to wrap around the end of the rod and chuck so that it doesn't "walk" out of the chuck at high speed. Jesse Re: grip marks

If you use the blue tape used for painting, it does not seem to leave any of the glue on the cork. Re: grip marks

Even a high quality masking tape (other than the blue) won't leave the adhesive on there unless I left it on for months. The Scotch brand from 3M is one of these good ones. The blue ones have different ratings for how long they can be left before they start to have these problems, too. Putter Williston, ND Re: grip marks

if you should live in a large city where there is a "photo district" or photography shops (independent or something like calumet) which cater to professional photographers, specifically selling grip equipment (light stands/tripods/sandbags, etc) or if you're lucky to have a burgeoning or established film indusrty in your area look for something called gaffer's tape. strong stuff and is designed not to leave residue. probably overkill for this use but just thought some of you might want to know of its existence. grey, black, yellow, 1-3 inches wide.
