When I returned from a fishing trip late last Friday, I left my assembled fly rods in the back of my minivan overnight. I felt this would give the rods and reels a chance to thoroughly dry. They did, and when I unloaded my gear in the morning I placed the four piece rods in their cloth sacks and cased them.
Last night I opened one of the cases and was alarmed to find that the cork grip was wet, and that the reel seat slide ring was stuck up against the grip. The wood insert had absorbed water and swelled up. The nickel silver components were tarnished. How did this happen? I’m not sure but assume that the cloth sack got against my wet waders and absorbed water that I didn’t notice when I packed the rods. When I returned home from work this evening I found that the slide band had fallen away from the grip area and most of the wood swelling was gone. There may not be any lasting damage, but I was lucky. Don’t let this happen to you. Be more careful than I was when you store your rods. Jeff Shafer Re: Reminder: Store Them Dry

Don't store rods in cloth sacks. Only transport them. Regards......Doug@ TCRds Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
