Broken Cabelas need replacement???

After 21 years of fishing with a Cabelas 33mil rod that I built, it broke yesterday after I put a little to much pressure on a 10 lb carp. It was a 2 pc. 9' 5 wt. many good years and a lot of fish landed.

I need your help in replacing it with a 4pc 9' 5wt. Since 1983 when I built it there has been many changes in rods. What do you guys think of Dan Crafts rods and what would be a good replacement????? I think I want a moderate to fast rod.

Thanks for your input !!

You may want to check out the Forecast series of blanks as they are also a 33mil moderate-action blank. I think there's probably a 9'0" 5 weight 4 piece in the lineup, or something very similar.

You may also want to check with GLOOMIS they make a lot of Cabela’s blanks. Like you said a lot of years fishing. It well hard to find something similar. Forecast is a great blank I would contact Batson in Squim WA (877)875-2381 this is a toll free number. Ask to talk to Josh Constant They may have something close to what you are looking for. What you well need is all the dimensions of the blank or rod

look into the batson rainshadow RX7, RX7+ or forecast (now called RX6). nice blank and component catalog, request one of each! pacific bay rainforest or tradition II. and last but certainly not least, Dan Craft. check out the Signature III, V and FT. only problem with the Sig V is they only come in 3 piece blanks.

check into a dan craft. i have four. my sig iii 9' 4wt is just a great casting rod and roll casts very smoothly. i have uplined it with a 5wt from time to time and it is so sweet. i believe he also has a 9' 5wt. he also has sig V and the FT series. all beautifully made and priced very reasonable for the quality. somewhere in his lineup he has a rod that would exceed your expectations. his name isn't "craft" for nothin.

Sorry you busted your sentimental favorite rod - I know that hurts. I agree with what's being said here that the Forecast (now called RX6) would probably be a good replacement for a 21-year old 33 million modulus blank. They are a little heavier than many modern IM6 and higher graphite rods and tend to feel like older vintage graphite rods. And good news for you, they are available in 2,3,4, or 5pc. models and don't cost much. So, if you build it and for some reason don't like it, you are not out much money and it will make a great gift for someone.
