Hi Guys
looking for help on a sand bass rod. Don't know the line but from research they are not that big. Largest caught is about 14 LBS and average about 4 plus?
All I really know is 6 FT med-med heavy Suggestions ? Sounds like a large mouth rod ?
Thanks

Are you talking about freshwater or saltwater? The freshwater variety is White Bass and there are two species of saltwater sand bass. Might make a difference.

Our state record here in Texas for a white bass is 5.5 pounds. Most I have caught are less than 2 lbs. I would use a 2 weight fly rod myself, tops. The hybid white bass/stripper are much bigger. A 6 weight for those.

As far as I know it is the Bass in the salt. Fished from bays. Do believe we are talking Texas.
Trying to get the girl to find out info for me.
My research was telling me they are also called White Bass ?

News to me Bill. I know that strippers migrate in from the bays, did not know that about sandies (white bass). I never heard of fishing for sandies in the salt. In any event, I would use a 6 weight, minimum, in the bays. Good for the wind and redfish.

Bill, I have only fished for these oncer or twice, but a Calstar 270, 6ft 12-30, or the equivalant blank from Seeker, should do the trick. Hope this helps.

Kris
