Guide Question

After searching the various manufacturers of line guides it seems to me, and correct me if I am wrong, that the choices on frame/ring colour combos is limited when either the Aluminum Oxide or Halide rings are chosen. For example I like American Tackles GBSF Guides with Black finished Frames and gold Rings. I can not find the same combo in either a Halide or Aluminum Oxide ring. Is anyone aware of choices being offered up in the Aluminum Oxide or Halide ring category for frame/ring colour choices? It is just that in my application right now I do not think I need the extra durability of Titanium Nitride, but I may have to in order to get a colour combination that provides a flare to the build.

Thanks
steve

Steve,

For what it's worth, I have been equally frustrated at times when trying to get a matching set of guides for a concept set-up using a combination of V-frames and single-foot "fly" type guides. In some cases the frame and ring colors, materials, and manufacturers can be matched between the two guide types, in other cases not. So you either mix and match, or go to an alternative (usually higher-priced) guide set to get what you call the "flare."

Not much help -- just another guy in a similar boat!

The halides/AlOx/Hardloys are completelt different materials to the gold ring guides. The processes used to deposit gold TiN on zirconia cannot be applied to those materials, thus there are no other ring colour options for those. As far as guide frame colours, there's basically chrome, black and gold, and not all are available. You'll just have to look in the catalogues and compromise. It's partciularly hard when you're doing replacements.
