Okay this is my first spinning rod and will be used for inshore saltwater. The guides that I have choosen as follows:
Blank is 7'6" 6mm Tip 2 6mm single foot 2 7mm SF 1 8mm SF 1 10mm SF 1 16mm SF 1 30mm SF I am going with a Fuji BYLG hardoy. Does this sound about right? Can I go with a bigger tip, say 8mm? Thanks, Doug Re: Guides for Rainshadow IP904 Popping Rod?

Doug,
If you want to get your rod to cast to it's potential, look at the 'New Guide Concept Primer' on the 'Library' at this site. This will explain how to figure out the sizes/positions of the first few guides, and explain that you don't need to 'taper' the size of the guides once the 'intersect' point is reached (you'll get this when you read the article). I'd not use such a set up as you described on any spinning rod. Good Luck! Buddy Re: Guides for Rainshadow IP904 Popping Rod?

Thanks. I actually got the set up I described from Fuji's website, under their "New Concept Guide Placement". I read the article you recommended. It is quite different from the Fuji's recommendation. You stated that you would not use such a set up, I guess you would go with the "new Guide Concept".
Thanks, Doug Re: Guides for Rainshadow IP904 Popping Rod?

Doug,
That's correct. I've been doing it the way Tom describes ever since I first read that article. Works amazingly well. What you see on the Fuji site just doesn't take the 'concept' to it's full potential. It will work, but it's no harder to do it the better way, in fact it's easier to set up. Good Luck!
