Color preserver mismatch

I am just an amateur, and I love to tinker with my rods. When I use color preserver, I use U40 Color Lock and have been satisfied for many years. Recently, I decided to re-do the butt section of my Sage 7' 2 piece Lite Line. I used garnet thread with two coats of U40, letting the second coat cure for about 12-14 hours before applying Flex Coat Lite. The threads seemed to cure quite a bit darker than the same treatment I made on the tip section about six months ago. I cut the wraps off and did it again, this time using a different but older bottle of U40 Color Lock. The wraps are now only slightly darker than the tip section but darker none-the-less. Probably, no one would notice, but I do.
Any idea what went wrong? I want to re-grip some more of my rods, but not if this is going to happen. It has never happened before with all of my tinkering sessions. Bill Re: Color preserver mismatch

Are you using the exact same thread from the very same spool? Thread colors vary from spool to spool even though they carry the same color number.

Yes, it is the same spool. I have only one of that color.

In that case, I can only guess that the tip is lighter due to some age and UV exposure. I think it you'll just proceed as you are, you'll find the wraps on the butt section will eventually match the tip with some slight age and use.
