OK, wanting as lightweight rod as possible using a tennessee handle. Please suggest a material. Prefer cork but Don suggested that Korkalon via Jann's may be lighter. A quick call to Jann and they measured the 7" tennessee at .0546 lbs which works out to over 0.87 oz for 7" length. (Thanks Jann's Netcraft for great tech service.) Doesn't seem as light as I thought it would be. Would cork be lighter?
Thanks in advance, Mo Re: Absolute lightest Tennessee handle material?

I think they included the 2 very substantial graphite slip rings. I will weigh one without. Re: Absolute lightest Tennessee handle material?

The lightest is, as Billy says, the woven graphite tubing. And Jann's has that, too. Putter Williston, ND Re: Absolute lightest Tennessee handle material?

try making the handle out of cork, but only make it a little longer than the reel foot. ex. if the reel foot is 2.5" make the gip 3.5". prefit the handle with your reel on it to find the balance point you want, mark it, then glue it up. can't make it much lighter. good luck. Thanks to all who replied. Again, WOW as usual for this forum. You guys are great.
Billy, the woven graphite sounds great. St Croix weight their 13" cork tennessee today with the rings and it also happens to be 0.90 ounces. My take is that that is about the same weight as the woven graphite of 15mm where you have to add inserts etc. THANKS for weighing this stuff for me. Stan, you're right. I may try something like that. The challenge of course is that we have various different reels so we want to the handle to be able to take different reel locations which means we need a longer handle. Otherwise, your suggestion is spot on and should save me about 0.6 ounces one I factor in the weight of glue also. 0.6 ounces - wow, that's quite a bit. I may just try your idea after all....:) THANKS again to all - and welcome any more thoughts. Blessings, Mo Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
