Gold HT tag on Black thread
Posted by: Joe Brenner (---.swifttrans.com)

I am wrapping a fly rod and have a very small tag of Gold HT showing out where I cut it off on black thread. Is it possible to "touch" it with a Black Sharpie marker to make it disappear? The rest of the wrap looks great and I didn't really want to redo the whole thing. This is probably something that no one else would notice...but would like to make it disappear. I am going to use LS supreme to finish the wraps...if it matters. If not the black sharpie any other ideas?

If you are able to feel the tag end sticking up through your wrap, then I would go ahead and apply the finish. Once the finish has setup take a sharp blade and trim the tag end off, then recoat the wrap.

Try using tester's black enamel paint. I believe the permanent magic marker will turn somewhat transparent when LS hits it.

If you can't feel the tag but can only see a bit of gold, be sure to burnish that area very well. Go in the direction of the tag thread. If that doesn't work, use a small pick and attempt to push the covering thread over the tag. Be gentle while doing this as you don't want to cause other problems in the process. If that works, reburnish & finish.

I do something similar as Jay does. I put a pick in between the wrapping thread one or two wraps behind the tag, and use it to grab and pull the tag back under until it doesn't show.
