Is there much difference between Pac Bay titanium single foot fly guides and Recoils? I'm building a Forecast 9' 4pc 4wt.
Thanks in advance, Scott Patterson Re: titanium s/f guides

Pac Bays are titanium carbide plated while the Recoils are a titanium alloy. I've used the Pac Bays a lot and have been happy with their longevity. Re: titanium s/f guides

Scott,
The main difference is that the REC guides are made from a titanium alloy. They are almost 'indestructable' and will spring back into shape after being stepped on, bent over, etc. ThePac Bays are 'coated' with a titanium carbide over the wire guide, and are subject to the same damage as any other wire guide. Both will work okay, if you find you want to use wire guides. Good Luck! Buddy Re: titanium s/f guides

The other implication of the Recoil's being actual nickel-titanium wire is they are UNBELIEVEABLY light! I know a set of Forecast (or Pac Bay) TiC-plated sf wire guides are pretty light, but the Recoils feel like they defy gravity. Plus, they're corrosion-proof, virtually indescructable as Buddy noted, and super-slick. BUT, they are more $$...not a ton, but a little more than double for a set.
Note that the light-duty (RSF or RSN) is incredibly light gauge wire. It's plenty strong because it's ti-alloy, but they are THIN. I only use them on 0-2wts and switch to RSFX for 3wts and up, though the light/standard gauge is certainly capable through 4wt at least. Anyway, just a $.02 deposit! :) Re: titanium s/f guides

Draw backs to the REC TiN wire snake guides are 1) the noise the make 2) the TiN shape memory alloy does not work well in cold weather, 3) the bending of the snake guide (recoil action) causes leverage on the guide foot attached to the blank which will pull the threads & finish off the blank, making space for water to enter & discolor the threads and check the finish. We know of large manufactures that have stopped using these guides do to reason #1 & 3. Regards. THreads are able to move under a coat of epoxy, no CP? Also, how would the thread discolor from moisture, if no CP i used? I'm just curious. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
