Hi guys
Starting to do some research on surf blanks and rods. I have noticed that most of them are in the " Moderate/fast catagory. Loomis is a fast. If one is thoughing 3-4 oz's of lure, or more, is it not better too have a " fast " blank for the power to cast it. My common sense is telling me a blank that is too soft will be what I consider " mushie " at 12 ft long? Am I wrong? Thinking about Graphite for the lighter material. Action would have nothing to do with whether a blank is stiff or soft.
Generally, many fishermen do not like extremely fast action blanks when fishing bait. The idea is that the quickness of the tip tends to tear soft baits off the hook when you cast them. I've used fast action rods to throw bait with, however, and haven't had the same type of trouble that I've heard others report. I suspect the particular type of bait and the casting style would have a lot to do with things. For plugs, spoons, lures, etc., I really prefer a fast action blank. I'd consult with your customers and see how they feel about things. Most long time surf guys will have some pretty good personal reasons for liking one or the other. ...........
