Shortening a blank

Would like to trim about 1" to 1 1/2" off the butt end of a pair of blanks to accomodate fighting butts.

What do folks recommend as the best method of doing this without damaging the blank?

Saw of some sort? Pipe cutter maybe? File and break?

Hello Mark
Wear a mask for sure if your talking cutting graphite or fiberglass. Wrap with masking tape and mark well where your going to cut. Use a trianglar file to score around the blank cutting in more each turn until it is cut through. You can even it off with the file after cutting. Alternatively use a dremel tool cutting disk but make sure and wear a mask. Do not breath in the graphite dust particles.

Go with Joe's recomendation. Like Joe stated ware protective eye ware. Graphte dust will cuts like tiny knives if they get ib to your eyes.

If you have a Dremel tool,the thin cutting disc will go through a blank like a hot knife through butter.Makes for a very fast and clean cut.

Mark,
I'd leave the butt as long as your rod tube and sock will allow. A little extra length here can help protect the tip sections on rods that see a lot of travel.
