I've got a few rods that have two coats of flex coat on the butt wraps. The guides came out decent, but the butt wraps have some "waves" and "lumps"....I've heard that some of you guys will sand the finish down a bit in order to get a very level surface ,to put final coats on. Obviously, I'll be contact cementing sandpaper to blocks...any recommendations on grit sizes I should be using? Any tips/tricks?
Thanks in advance Mike Re: Sanding finish

No need to CC it to a sanding block, I just clamp the paper with my thumb on the block. I use 180 followed by 220 for "severe" cases, or just 220. Cleaning the residue, I use Denatured with a rag - paper towel & coffee filters seem to leave dingleberries.
Be careful you don't sand into the thread - it won't ruin your wrap, but it will make teh epoxy come out bumpy over the area where the threads were sanded. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
