I have a can of Testors spray enamel and was wondering if it would be good to paint a blank with and apply Permagloss over that. Will the Permagloss react with the enamel?, and will the enamel flex enough to prevent cracking? Re: Spray Enamel

Do a test mike, putting perma gloss over enamel will make that baby wrinkle and peel like an onion Re: Spray Enamel

I agree with John. Do a test spray on a peice of scrap. Some enamels will melt off if you don't let them fully cure (dry). Spray then wait 3 days before wiping on your permagloss. Bill in WV Re: Spray Enamel

They are usually thicker and will take a good while to dry. Some thing with a lacquar base is a lot better to use. Plasti-Kote or Duplicolor auto colors Re: Spray Enamel

Yeah, I tested and it melted. I found an Acrylic paint that flexes when dry. The only reason I wanted to use the spray enamel was because it was the perfect color(Hot Magenta) I don't think Plasticoat makes a hot pink (I don't see many hot pink cars rolling around..lol) Thanks for the heads up Re: Spray Enamel

Mike, spar urethane would work over the top of the Testors. You would just have to take the time to let things fully cure out before wrapping. Regards......Doug@ TCRds Re: Spray Enamel

Krylon Fusion has a pink color; don't know how "hot" it is, Mike, but it's a paint guys have been using on blanks and reel seats.
I haven't tried it yet, though... Putter Williston, ND Re: Spray Enamel

Thanks, I'll have to see how this acrylic works(I need to justify buying an airbrush and compressor) If it doesn't look good, I'll look into the Fusion Re: Spray Enamel

Mike
If you have an airbrush and compressor you do some nice paint jobs. Just use thin auto lacquer and then urethanes over that. Thats the best way to do it. Check out auto body shops and auto supply stores. Ask a lot of questions. Plus you can get pigments and make up any color you want. Edited 2 time(s). Mike, I was looking on Grizzly's web site and they have a couple of air brushes ($10 & $33) and a mini compressor ($60) that should run them. Not a huge investment, but I imagine very handy.

I picked up a two gallon compressor that hangs on the wall at Lowes this weekend and a Badger airbrush. The paint that I picked up is used for painting lexan bodies on RC cars so its very flexible. Only other question is, can Permagloss be sprayed? Re: Spray Enamel

Either Joe Kassuba or Ralph O'Quinn mentioned that spraying Permagloss has wrecked many nozzles; it dries so darned fast in the nozzle and plugs quickly, I guess. Again, I haven't tried this, either, Mike. Putter Williston, ND Re: Spray Enamel

Spar Varnish can me thinned and sprayed with the Badger. I have the Badger 250 and it gives good results. I am experimenting with Createx airbrush paints as well as their Auto Air paints. Don't like the chemicals found in spray paint that much.
