Weave, need some help.

HI ALL,
Trying to do my first weave projects. First is YELLOWFIN TUNA, second BROOK TROUT. Both Multi layer. Trout is design by Mark Crouse, first layer, left side numbers give thread color, only 1 , but nothing about wrap ?
second layer, left side numbers , 5 different colors , I know are weave thread, but nothing about wrap thread. this second layer , wrap threads would cover first layer threads ?

YELLOWFIN TUNA, designed by, The Munich Rod Man, ( all print very small & not sharp )
this one gives wrap & weave thread. First layer it gives the numbers down left side, only 1 color. nothing about wrap.
second layer, gives 6 weave, But again I'm going over first layer?

anyone familiar with these two, or direct me to some photos for reference, or try to give explanation

I could down load a photo / diagram , e-mail-----> PRRODS@aol.com
Or a FAX, 845-735-2040

THANX,

Dave von Doehren

I've just finshed several of Mark Crouse's rainbow trout pattern. It is very nice. The wrap thread is black. It shows through for the eye, spots, gills and other details.

Mark Crouse = Munich Rod Man, in case you didn't know!

David

Not exactly sure what your question is, but here goes: The wrap thread can be any color (what ever background color your want, but of course you want one that will be in contrast with the colors of your Design threads) I use black most of the time. As far as Wrap thread numbers, How I number my patterns is to start by going to a row of squares just above the top most part of the pattern (tuna) and pick the square that heads the column that just in front of the first square of the pattern and number it Wrap thread number 1. Proceed to number the rest of the squares in that row ending with the last number falling on the square that is above the last square of the pattern. Now your left list should be in order of the wrap threads starting at the top as Wrap thread number 1 and to the right will be the Design threads that need to be moved to the left, Hence "Left List". Each of the threads to the right of the wrap thread numbers will be colored to match the color of the Design thread it represents in the pattern. If I was you I would try to get used to using the pattern only and not the Left list.

Kerry is giving you good advice. Learn to work off the Pattern (graph) instead of a left list. Each vertical column on the graph represents one complete revolution of the rod. Each horizontal row represents a design thread. All of the threads that show in a column go to the left all the rest are to the right. After you move the indicated threads to the left, or if they no longer show in the pattern bring them back to the right, complete that revolution of the rod and move to the next column.

Some of us young guys still have the energy to make left lists!

Don't get me wrong there is nothing wrong with using a Left List and it's sure a better way to share a pattern than having to send out a 3' X 5' pattern. However errors creep into left lists and when they do you really don't know if you made the mistake while weaving or it was in the list. Also if you want to make a change in the pattern it's a cinch to do with white out and a pen on the pattern and not have to go back and change the left list. You are also able to see which way the pattern is facing and where in the pattern you are as you work on it.

Errors do appear in left lists, you'd be suprised whose left lists I've found mistakes in. for that reason before I do any pattern off a left list especially if I've gotten it from someone else, I graph the pattern out on graph paper to see what its gonna look like. On my patterns I put a small thumbnail of this graph on the left list sheet so others can see what the pattern will look like prior to weaving it.
To me it still looks much easier to weave off an 81/2 by 11 paged left list than trying to keep track of where you're at on a 3' by 5' pattern, someday I may try old blue toes( when I get a left list done of it!)
Again , Congrats on the baby dragon, best weave I've ever seen anywhere, anytime , by anybody, you da MAN!!!!

I agree with Mr.Jim Upton .
I tried make left before but wasted alot of time , your eyes make mistake 'cause long hour look at picture and write down all numbers
if you weaves small pattem it's ok but big patterm over 100 design thread it really pain@## it take all day to write down all numbers.
when you tire you gonna make mistake that what happened when did first weaves it turn out ug....ka...ly too many errors in the pattern :-) and i got advice from Mr.Jim work traight out from pattern so I think I'm doing okay.
Like Mr.Jim said nothing wrong with the left list ,may be for soneone, for me I took his advice
his baby dragon if you try to make left list it gonnnna beeee looong time( 90 hours(for pro) weaving plus ?????left list = PAIN :-)
