I have decided to build my first fly rod , I was thinking of using a matrix 8'6'' #5 two piece blank , are these any good .

I have two of the spinning blanks and like them. Haven't heard anything bad about them.

I'm currently building two matrix fly rods, already built an 8'4 weight. I suspect that the blank your're considering will actually be a 6 weight if you check it with the CC method. Check the CCS data and you'll see that what few have been tested all tested out as higher line weights. These are nice blanks, nicely finished and very quick.
