I was playing a small trout this weekend with my Sage XP 5 wt. and I heard a clink hit the bottom of my tin boat. I looked down and it was the bottom end of my reel seat, end cap with threaded part and the nut ring. A small amount of epoxy(I don't know what was used on this rod) is left on the wood insert. What is the proper way to clean it up and refasten. I was going to scrape it smooth(the wood insert which is still fastened to the blank), then lightly sand and try to clean out and score the inside of the uplock. I think it failed after about 60 days fishing, one years use, and no abuse or bumps that I can remember. Was it because the builder used only 5 minute epoxy, and should I repair it using longer cure time epoxy?

I think you have the right idea. Clean the old epoxy, buff with grey scotchbrite (no need to score anything), lightly sand the insert . Dry fit the parts to ensure a good fit and put it together with Rod Bond.
