I just recently ordered a new rod from a guy off this board. It will feature a hot pink painted rod blank and purple and gold wraps.... and I'm looking for a reel to match it. The guy building it said that a guy named Putter has been known to paint reels with some success... and I need to know how to get ahold of him? Or if anyone else has been successful in painting the reels without it looking like a hack job, I'd appreciate an email with your name and what I'd be looking at cost wise... I would really like to have a purple reel to match the rod. Purple/pink marble would be great too... .although horrid to many. haha.
If there is anyone here who can do this, I'd really appreciate hearing from you! Thanks Tammy Re: New Reel... I hear a guy named Putter might be the guy

TLD, welcome. Is this for the rod Mike McG wrapped/is wrapping you?
I don't think Putter does these for other people, too much time involved. Can't hurt to ask him though. Re: New Reel... I hear a guy named Putter might be the guy

Hey Tammy,
I'm also on Stripersonline so welcome. If Putter can't paint that reel for you, perhaps you can sell it and get a new one to match. The Quantum PTI with the holographic finish would be a good match since it will show shades of purple and pink at certain angles. Just a thought. Good luck. Lou Re: New Reel... Tammy and I have emailed back and forth on this now. Those who know her can say more than I that she's pretty special!! I can tell that through the few emails that we've had.
I still feel that the epoxy rod finish marbled onto the surface of a reel is an "iffy" proposition. Epoxy rod finish is great stuff when encapsulating something round such as a rod blank. I don't believe that on a reel's flat surfaces that it is a candidate for long-term last; at least not without a ton of 'special care' and lots of luck, too. Fishing is something that often demands the most from all things used in the sport and even accidently exacts a great toll on most equipment. It would be really difficult to do this for someone and then have it go bad on them. My four reels that I've marbled have a bit less than a full season on them and although they've been used many times in my boat, it's too early for me to tell if this is something that's going to last. There was a post awhile back about an alternative method to marbleizing. Had to do with floating oil based enamel on water in a pattern of sorts then submerging the item in the solution, remove and hang to dry.
Don't remember who posted it though. Maybe they'll chime in with an how to. Might be a better alternative to epoxy finish. Regards......Doug@ TCRds Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
