Making conventional rod out of this blank. Will be used for striper fishin with live bait. 6500 reel and 10 fuji guides. Rod has fast action. Thinking of under wrapping with a and over guide with d. Is this the way to go. Fish will be in the teens to poss. 30lbs. Any suggestions will be helpful. Thanks Bill Re: wrapping 12/13 cascade blank

No need to underwrap unless you just want the extra color on there. Other than that I'm not sure what type of suggestions you want.

If underwrapping isn't necessary then is a thread strong enough or d? Re: wrapping 12/13 cascade blank

A would certainly be strong enough - thread strength generally isn't an issue - guides don't get ripped off of rods. But, you may find it easier and quicker to use D thread if you're starting out. D is also thicker so you get a bit more protection against heavy abrasion, if that sort of thing is expected.
You're talking about a pretty heavy rod so D might not appear out of place. But for the most part I think you could use A and do just fine. Most all fly rods are wrapped using A thead. ............. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
