I have several Lamson reels Litespeed and Waterworks models. I have not used the Velocity but asstated to me by Lamson they all use the same drag only difference is in the frame, finish, etc. The reels have performed flawlessly for me IMHO you can' go wrong with their product . The only drawbaack I have found withe the reels I have is the frames are somewhat fragile. If your tough (carless, sloppy) with your equipment you may want to reconsider. That being said I am not familiar with the Velocity first hand and the frames /spools may be more bulletproof. Re: lamson velocity reel

Sure, it's a really nice reel. The drag is good. They changed the only thing I did not like and that was the drag knob, IMO it used to be too recessed.
Great reel and a great price. If you're looking at alternatives - check out the Galvan Standard and Rush. Both are excellent. Christian Re: lamson velocity reel

I just gave my Velocity 2 a workout on a bunch of 8-9 pound wipers. It has been a great reel. Second season using it and never had a problem. I'd buy another in a second!

I highly reccomend them. I have several friends that fishthem on their salmon rods up here in Alaska. If it can handle a big ol Kenai red that hits the current then it can be fished just about anywhere Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
