Need Suggestion for Bass Spinning Rod Blank

Would like to build a spinning rod to be used for 5" Senkos as well as tubes. Did some checking, mainly on the Bass Fishing Home Page, but just wanted to confirm if the Shakari PSB 703 would be a good choice. Also, I fish around docks and at times it can get tight so I was debating on a 6' 6" blank which looks like would be the PSB 663. Any input would or other options would be great.

Don, check out the Rainshadow lineup, especially in the IC and spin jig series, RX7 and The RX8. I personally like the IC 722 and IC 723 in the RX7, butt diameters of less than .500 and very reasonable, right in the 50.00 range and 43 million modulus. Great matte finish, and straight as an arrow., Custom tackle, Schneiders, and Binghams stock them and are good to deal with. The RX8 is higher in modulus, I don't quite exactly know, above 50 million, but a little more pricey. They are made in USA and most dealers have them in stock. Just my opinion, also check out the ST Croix, SCIII models they are also a great value. Just my opinion. Good luck

Why does it need to be a spinning rod??? I love throwing that size of senkos on my St. Croix 3C68MXF. It's the best rod I've found for that type of bait. A lot of guys build it up as a spinning rod too. . .

Just a thought.

The guys on BFHP are knowledgable, but also very opinionated (I know, I post my opinions there also). More than one guy there, and I'm one of them, has in the past recommended a St. Croix 5S66MF for 5" Senkos. It's perhaps the lightest and most sensitive blank you can get for that application, and plenty strong, I took a 9-pounder on one last year.

I really like those PSB blanks. Great tapers.

The 3 power is a fine choice. I'd also recommend the 2 power. Building a pair of them right now.

Would also recommend the 3 power SJ blanks.

Better to have and not need than to need and not have.

I use CTS blanks for that very application. Nice light tip GREAT backbone. I fish senko's and tubes in up to 20 feet of water and can cross the eyes of a smallmouth at that depth! I have a 7' built for spinning and a 7'6" built for bait casting and is spiral wrapped. The 7'6" is for light weight baits 1/16th to 3/8's Check out the cts.
