I finally had the chance to test out the H&H IM6 7' 4wt that I recently built. All I can say is wow! It casts much nicer than my St. Croix Avid 8' 4wt, which was my favorite 4wt up to this point. With a size 14 Adams, the Orvis WF4F Wonderline seems to float in the air. With my Avid, I could never make soft dry fly presentations. With this rod, the bug just floats down onto the surface of the water. Let's say that I did not have very high expectations of this budget blank (or my ability to build a fly rod that did not handle like a baseball bat), but I am hooked! I honestly cannot see myself laying out hundreds of dollars on a production fly rod now that I see what a little time and attention to detail can produce. Re: Hook & Hackle IM6 7' 4wt

My first rod was an H&H IM6 9' 3wt and I had the same experience as you. It is a great rod and hooked me for life on rod building. I now have three great fly rods that I have built for less than the cost of a nice production rod.
