Had an Epiphany. I had an old light bar laying around that I used to use for videography. It carrys 4 300wt BEP movie floods. Turn this sucker on, hold it a safe distance from the blank, and you can watch the water vapor dissipate from the paint I am using as it drys.
WARNING: Wear Sunglasses........I am not kidding. Using standard Createx water based airbrush paint in Pearl Red with some bright gold Prearl-X pigment from Jacquard Products added on a beater boat rod I am rebuilding as an experiment. Top coat will be Spar varninsh with a tiny amount of the same gold pigment mixed in.. Here goes nothing. Derek Re: New Drying Set-up

By the way, you can use that Createx Pearl paint pigment in epoxy or Permagloss. I just did a blank with Permagloss, tinted with Createx Pearl. Worked just fine.

Tom,
Is this like using Testor's, do you have to let the pigment and thinner separate and pour off the thinner? Re: New Drying Set-up

I would, yes. Most bottles have been sitting for so long when you buy them that the parts are already separated. As long as you don't shake them, you can usually pour off the solvent right after buying them.

I will post pictures, but only if doing so won't make me die of embarassment. I am a newbie after all.
I am experimenting with Pearl-X pigments from Jacquard Products and am very impressed. These suckers can be mixed with ANYTHING, or just brushed or blown on. You might want to take a look. Derek I have to admit something here.......I HATE two part epoxies...That is why I am sticking to spar varnish. Re: New Drying Set-up

Note to self.......Don't put the lights too close to the rod you idiot!....Blank is fine but the paint bubbled up a bit in one spot. Nothing some 1500 grit can't fix. You can grill a steak with these lamps, I ain't a kiddin here boys, anyone need a tan?
Purposely pushing things a bit to see what happens with this rod. Contrary to the label, this paint does not work real well on the dark blanks, but it is giving an interesting effect over all. This is a stiff 5' boat rod blank. I intend to extend the handle by 18", spiral wrap with stainless guides, patterned EVA grips (are you reading this Billy V.? I could use some guidence here), standard SW reel seat. Don't know what color I will do the guide wraps yet. Derek Re: New Drying Set-up

Do they have a website. I did a Google search and all it turned up was textile and carpet products. Bill in WV Re: New Drying Set-up
