Nail Knot is slick

Hi to all those who helped me with my trim wrap problem with metallic thread. I figured out how to place trim by using the nail knot method and it works great. It's really easy and eliminates the danger of the trim wraps coming apart.

Hint:
For the nail or tube part of the knot method I use the tapered end of the thinnest knitting needle I can find. I make the knot over both the needle and rod blank, slide it off the needle on the tapered end of the needle, and right onto the rod blank. It's a great method!

Bruce: Glad you figured it out. Be aware that you wind up with exactly the same result if you wrap the knot over a taped down pull-through loop. Once your needle, or the loop, is removed, what's left on the blank is the same.

Or you can just wrap it around your finger. All give the same final result.

For trim bands I prefer the loops made for threading dental floss. Ralph

If at first you don't succeed, go fishing, then try, try again.

What is the dental floss loop method?

The loops are made to thread dental floss into a tool or between tight teeth, anyway, the pharmacy has them as 'Floss Threaders'. They are stiffer than winding thread or spiderwire and mine are bright blue and easy to find if dropped. They are used exactly like any other pull through loop. On trim rings, I start a trim ring the same as a wrap, off a spool and through the tensioner, except the threader goes under the entire trim ring. I think some use a short piece of loose thread for a trim ring? It's like using a sewing needle to tie a Nail Knot. Ralph
