I saw a photo of a rod on another board that had a butt wrap called a tiger wrap. Looks like a marblized finish, but apparently it was all done with thread. I couldn't find any info on this anywhere. Is anyone else familiar with this decorative wrap?

If you're talking about the blue wrap on AC, I've seen it done this way... take a marker pen (blue in this case) and a spool of (blue) thread and make stripes across the thread (perpendicular to the thread direction). When the thread is wrapped on the blank, the 'tiger' effect is attained. Now, was that about as clear as mud, or what? LOL

The Tiger Wrap is NOT done with markers, dyes, color preserver,or marbleizing...Completely different effect than the Clemmens Amazing Wrap. The Clemmens wrap produces a reticulated, repetitive pattern simalar to Trimar thread, but slightly more random. Believe it or not, only un-altered commercially produced rod thread in solid colors (and occasionally metallic) is used! It is purely a thread wrapping technique. What can’t be seen in any of the pictures is the 3-D effect that is produced. The stripes and patterns shift and move as the rod is moved and viewed at different angles.
I developed this technique about ten years ago, and perfected it over the years, gradually evolving from random stripes, to round spots and “bulls eyes” resulting in the wrap seen on the majority of the production and custom rods my small company produces. It has also appeared on some limited runs we’ve built for other well known tackle manufacturers, but most were exported.
So far, only Myself, and a small handful of wrappers that have worked with me over the years know exactly how it’s done. So far it has been kept a closely guarded secret, the signature wrap on my rods. Usually I love to share my tips and tricks, but I’d like to hang onto this one for a little while longer….
