A lot has been posted lately about the "spine finder". Is this something anybody can make? If so what are the particulars on making it. Sounds like a good piece to have on the workbench. Would appreciate any help. Ozzie Re: Spine finder

It's pretty simple tool. Most of them are just two bearings held horizontally in a couple pieces of wood fastened to a base. Then you can also make a vertical model which is more like a bearing supporting a cone that you fit the rod butt over. There are plans for both types in past issues of RodMaker. Check their website back issue page for the specific issues they were in. You can make one of these for just a few dollars. Re: Spine finder

It is also possible to mount a tube of PVC to a support and have the two bearings mounted at each end of the tube. I have one like this. The bearings are about 10 inches apart. Re: Spine finder

Go to any truck repair shop. The front and rear bearings out of manual transmissions works great. Even if they are shot for use in an truck, they'll still make good spine finder bearings. Make sure to clean them out and run them with only light oil. Grease will not allow them to spin freelly enough for many blanks. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
